The lower comprises a flexible cellular rubber which is 100% waterproof, allowing the user to move through melting snow, wet grass, and low water. This is stitched and bonded to a thick, full grain leather upper which provides further waterproofing (if kept waxed) and stability while allowing the foot to breathe.
Waterproof membranes in other footwear can sometimes fail expectations in very cold conditions, leaving the user with damp, sweaty feet which cool extremely fast, leaving the user prone to frostbite. See video of the Lundhags system here.
